Description

This Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan features golden-brown chicken cutlets topped with savory marinara and melted mozzarella. Ideal for a quick dinner, it’s both healthy and comforting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 whole skinless chicken breast or 4 cutlets
  • 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese grated
  • 2 teaspoons italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup spaghetti sauce or marinara sauce
  • 4 tablespoons mozzarella cheese shredded

Instructions

  1. If using whole chicken breasts, cut them in half lengthwise for even thickness.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. In another bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them together until yolks and whites are combined.
  4. Prepare a baking rack to place the coated chicken pieces.
  5. Dip each piece first in the egg mixture, then coat it with the breadcrumb mixture.
  6. Place the coated chicken on the baking rack and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  7. Preheat the air fryer to 360 °F for 3 minutes.
  8. Lightly oil the chicken to help it brown, using a spray bottle of oil.
  9. Arrange the cutlets in a single layer in the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding. Cook in batches if needed.
  10. Air fry at 360 °F for 6 minutes, then flip the cutlets and cook for an additional 4 minutes.
  11. Check if the chicken has reached an internal temperature of 160 °F. If not, continue air frying for 2-3 minutes and check again. The coating should appear golden brown.
  12. Once it reaches 165 °F, carefully top each cutlet with 2 tablespoons of spaghetti sauce and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top.
  13. Air fry at 360 °F for 2 more minutes to heat the sauce and melt the cheese.

Notes

For a healthier option, try using whole wheat breadcrumbs.
Feel free to add extra herbs to the breadcrumb mixture for more flavor.
To ensure even cooking, don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket.
