Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups water or broth, (or a combination)
- 1 cup white basmati rice
- 1½ teaspoons salt
Instructions
- Bring water or broth to a boil over high heat and add the rice.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and cover the pot to maintain a low boil.
- Cook for 10-12 minutes: 10 minutes for firmer grains, 12 for softer grains (set a timer!).
- Drain over a fine mesh sieve until most of the liquid is gone, then place the rice back into the pot and cover it with the lid.
- Let it sit off the heat for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice and serve.
Notes
Adjust the cooking time for desired rice firmness—10 minutes for firmer grains and 12 minutes for softer.
For added flavor, consider using broth instead of water when cooking the rice.
Allowing the rice to rest off the heat is key for achieving the perfect fluffiness.
