Description

This Black Forest Cake is a delightful combination of rich chocolate layers, luscious cherry filling, and fluffy whipped cream. Perfect for celebrations or simply enjoying at home, it’s a simple yet decadent dessert that everyone adores!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 15.25 ounce devil’s food cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup salted butter melted
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 16 ounce carton heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup white chocolate instant pudding mix
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 11 ounce jar maraschino cherries divided
  • 42 ounce can cherry pie filling divided
  • 1 cup chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and spray three 6-inch pans or two 9-inch pans with baking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, milk, melted butter, and sour cream until smooth.
  3. Distribute the batter evenly into the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  4. Bake for 22-27 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean and the tops bounce back.
  5. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  6. To make the icing, beat together heavy cream, white chocolate pudding mix, and powdered sugar until thick and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  7. Start assembling by placing one layer of cake on a serving tray and brushing it with cherry syrup.
  8. Pipe a border of whipped cream around the edge and some in the middle.
  9. Spread 1⅓ cups of cherry pie filling in the center.
  10. Add the second cake layer and repeat the filling process. Continue stacking until all layers are assembled.
  11. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining whipped cream frosting.
  12. Decorate with chocolate shavings and maraschino cherries as desired.
  13. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting to achieve a neat finish.
Store any leftovers in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.
Feel free to adjust the amount of cherry filling based on your preference.
