Description

This Christmas tree pull apart bread is a delightful holiday treat, featuring soft, cheesy dough balls, an irresistible flavor, and a fun way to gather with loved ones.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour: 490 grams (3 ½ cups)
  • Kosher salt: 2 teaspoons
  • Instant or active dry yeast: 2 teaspoons
  • Warm water: 315 grams (1 ⅓ cups)
  • Olive oil: 4 tablespoons (2 for the dough, 2 for seasoning)
  • String cheese mozzarella sticks: 8 oz, cut into pieces
  • Grated garlic: 2 cloves
  • Italian seasoning: 1 teaspoon
  • Grated parmesan: ½ cup
  • Fresh rosemary: Ideal for seasoning

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare your baking sheet.
  • Whisk together flour, kosher salt, and yeast in a large bowl.
  • Combine warm water and 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a separate bowl.
  • Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until a shaggy dough forms and knead for about five minutes.
  • Cover and let the dough rise for about 60 minutes until it doubles in size.
  • Prepare the cheese filling by chopping string cheese and mixing remaining olive oil, garlic, Italian seasoning, and parmesan.
  • Punch down the risen dough, divide it into 32 small balls, and shape them.
  • Arrange the dough balls on the baking sheet in a Christmas tree shape with cheese inside.
  • Brush garlic mixture over the dough balls and sprinkle with rosemary.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown, then cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend if needed.
Make ahead by prepping the dough and storing it covered in the refrigerator overnight before baking.
