Description

This Foolproof Sage and Sausage Stuffing features irresistible flavor and simple prep. With ground pork sausage, fresh herbs, and day-old bread, it’s ideal for gatherings or cozy dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground pork sausage
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 celery stalks, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped (or ½ teaspoon dried)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 10 cups cubed day-old bread (about 1 loaf)
  • 2 ½ cups chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbled. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the onion and celery until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper, cooking for an additional minute.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread cubes, sausage, and sautéed vegetables. Stir in the chicken broth and melted butter until well moistened.
  5. Transfer to the greased baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until the top is lightly browned.

Notes

Use day-old bread for the best texture.
Feel free to add additional herbs or spices according to your taste.
This stuffing can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
