  • 1 tsp dijon mustard
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 12 tsp hot sauce
  • 1 tsp chicken bouillon powder (optional)
  • salt

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the onion and garlic for about a minute until fragrant.
  2. Add the carrot (or any vegetables you prefer) and cook for a few more minutes until slightly softened.
  3. Stir in the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  4. Mix in the tomato paste, then pour in the beef broth and chopped tomatoes.
  5. Season with oregano, smoked paprika, barbecue spice, chili flakes, salt, and pepper; stir to combine.
  6. Cover and simmer until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld.
  7. Cook the macaroni in salted boiling water until just tender, then drain and toss with a bit of butter while warm.
  8. In a saucepan, melt butter and whisk in flour; gradually add milk and cream, stirring until the mixture thickens.
  9. Stir in half of the grated cheese until melted and smooth; season with nutmeg, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, chicken bouillon, salt, and pepper.
  10. Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce until well coated.
  11. In a baking dish, layer the macaroni and cheese with the meat sauce, adding remaining cheese between layers.
  12. Finish with a generous layer of cheese on top, then bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  13. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
