Ingredients
Scale
- 2¼ cups cake flour
- 2½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 good pinch of salt
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- ⅔ cup sour cream, + 1 tablespoon
- vegetable oil, for frying
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons of water
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt for the dry ingredients.
- In a separate bowl, mix granulated sugar with the cooled melted butter, egg, egg yolk, and sour cream for the wet ingredients.
- Combine the dry mixture with the wet mixture until you form a sticky dough, being careful not to overwork it.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to ¼-inch thick and cut out donuts using a 2 ½-3 inch cutter, reshaping any leftover dough.
- Transfer the donuts to floured parchment paper, making holes in each if not using a cutter.
- Heat vegetable oil in a pot to 375ºF and fry the donuts for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown, then drain on paper towels or a wire rack.
- In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and water to create the glaze.
- Drizzle or dip the donuts in the glaze and place on a wire rack until set. Serve as desired.
Notes
Ensure the oil is at the right temperature to avoid greasy donuts.
Donuts can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
Experiment with adding spices like nutmeg or cinnamon to the dough for extra flavor.
