Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1⅔ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • Optional toppings: melted chocolate, sprinkles, sanding sugar, nonpareils

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F and prepare cookie sheets.
  • Cream softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Stir in egg, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt until just combined.
  • Gradually add flour on low speed until incorporated, creating a soft dough.
  • Fill cookie press with dough and press onto cool baking sheet, leaving space between cookies.
  • Bake for 6-8 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  • Cool on baking sheet briefly before transferring to a wire rack. Decorate as desired.

Notes

Use unsalted butter for best flavor control.
For vegan options, substitute egg with a flax egg and butter with a vegan alternative.
Cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
