Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound prepared pizza dough
- 12 ounces sliced italian deli meats (4 ounces pepperoni, 4 ounces salami, 4 ounces soppressata)
- 1/4 cup julienned fresh basil leaves
- 1 (8-ounce) package sliced provolone
- 1 (8-ounce) package low-moisture shredded mozzarella
- 1 egg white + 1 tablespoon water
- toppings: finely-chopped fresh parsley or basil, flaky sea salt, grated parmesan
- marinara sauce, for dipping
- 2 tablespoons melted salted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon each: dried oregano, garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F, placing a pizza stone or metal baking sheet inside to heat for at least 20 minutes.
- In a bowl, whisk together the melted butter, oregano, and garlic powder until well combined.
- On a floured surface, roll the pizza dough into a rectangle of about 12×18 inches, with the long side facing you.
- Brush half of the garlic butter mixture over the center of the dough, leaving a 1.5-inch border around the edges.
- Layer the sliced meats over the dough evenly, add the fresh basil, then the provolone, followed by additional meat and mozzarella.
- Mix egg white and water in a small bowl for an egg wash. Brush the 2-inch border of the dough to seal the stromboli.
- Fold in the short ends of the dough, then roll it tightly from the long side closest to you, sealing the seam and ends well. Transfer it seam side down onto parchment paper.
- Brush the outside with the remaining egg wash and sprinkle with Parmesan. Cut 5-6 small slits on top for steam ventilation.
- Transfer the stromboli to the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet and bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
- After baking, brush with remaining garlic butter and top with desired garnishes. Let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
For extra flavor, use a variety of Italian deli meats.
Ensure to seal the edges well to keep the filling from leaking out during baking.
Toppings can be adjusted based on personal preference; feel free to experiment!
