Ingredients

- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- ¼ cup mirin or rice vinegar
- ¼ cup water
- 1 tbsp honey (use 2 tbsp for a sweeter sauce)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced or 2 tsp minced garlic)
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger (or ? tsp ground ginger)
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- ¼ tsp black pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Whisk all ingredients together in a saucepan.
- Heat over medium-high and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 3–5 minutes, stirring until thickened.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Serve immediately or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 1–2 weeks.
Notes
For a sweeter sauce, increase honey to 2 tablespoons.
This sauce can be used as a marinade or dipping sauce.
